About SMCO
Straits Meridian Capital Office (SMCO) is a research-driven capital platform headquartered in Singapore. We operate at the intersection of capital, systems, and long-horizon structural change. We do not follow market narratives. We read the structures beneath them.
What that means in practice: We are a lean, research-first team. We do not chase short-term volatility. We do not have revenue targets. Our focus is on disciplined capital allocation and long-term structural positioning. Your work will keep the financial engine running — ensuring that our operations are as disciplined and precise as our research.
We are a small team. No bureaucracy. No politics. Just clarity, rigour, and execution.
The Role
We are looking for a hands-on finance professional to manage the day-to-day financial operations of our capital platform. You will be responsible for accounting, treasury, payment processing, and financial reporting across our Singapore office. This is not a strategic finance role — it is a working finance role. You will be in the numbers, processing transactions, reconciling accounts, and ensuring everything is accurate, timely, and compliant.
This is a full-time, Singapore-based position reporting directly to the Head of Operations. You will work from our Singapore office and have significant autonomy and ownership over the financial function.
What You'll Do — Day to Day
Your typical week might include:
Payments & Transactions
- Processing vendor payments, payroll, and intercompany transactions accurately and on time
- Managing payment workflows across multiple entities and currencies
- Monitoring payment approvals and ensuring compliance with internal authorisation policies
Bookkeeping & Reconciliation
- Managing full-cycle bookkeeping — recording transactions, maintaining ledgers, and ensuring all entries are properly documented
- Performing daily cash monitoring and bank reconciliations
- Managing accounts payable and receivable processes from end to end
- Maintaining organised financial documentation for audit and review purposes
Month-End & Reporting
- Performing month-end general ledger closes
- Preparing and maintaining accurate financial records and management reports
- Supporting the Head of Operations with budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management
- Preparing monthly financial summaries for internal review
Compliance & External Coordination
- Coordinating with external auditors, tax advisors, and banking partners
- Ensuring compliance with relevant financial regulations and internal policies
- Supporting annual audit and tax filing processes
- Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of Singapore regulatory and tax requirements
Who You Are — Core Competencies
We are looking for someone who brings:
- Solid understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting — you understand the mechanics of double-entry bookkeeping, accruals, and reconciliations
- Hands-on experience with bookkeeping, AP/AR, and bank reconciliations — you have done this work, not just overseen it
- Attention to detail and accuracy — you have a low tolerance for errors, discrepancies, or incomplete documentation
- Ability to work independently — you can manage your own workflow, prioritise competing demands, and deliver on schedule without supervision
- Strong organisational and communication skills — you can keep your books clean and can explain financial matters clearly to non-finance stakeholders
- Proficiency with accounting software and spreadsheets — you are comfortable with tools like Xero, QuickBooks, or equivalent, and you know your way around Excel
Experience required: 5+ years of hands-on finance/accounting experience. This is not an entry-level position — we need someone who can hit the ground running.
Eligibility: Candidates must be based in Singapore and have the right to work in Singapore. We are unable to sponsor employment passes for this role.
Preferred Backgrounds
We are particularly interested in candidates whose professional experience has been shaped by one or more of the following environments:
- Family office, investment holding company, or private capital platform
- Investment firm, fund administration, or asset management finance functions
- Corporate finance or accounting roles with multi-entity or cross-border operations
- Professional services firms — Big Four accounting firms (KPMG, PwC, EY, Deloitte) or equivalent
Institutional affinity: We are especially interested in candidates whose work has been shaped by settings such as family offices, investment holding companies, private capital platforms, or professional services firms (Big Four accounting firms).
Qualification: An accounting or finance qualification (ACCA, CPA, or equivalent) is strongly preferred but not strictly required if you have the experience.
Why SMCO
Here is what you can expect from working with us:
- Direct responsibility — you will own the financial operations, not just support someone else who does
- Lean, research-first culture with no revenue targets — we measure success by clarity, discipline, and execution, not by sales performance
- Singapore-based, full-time — you will be working from our Singapore office with a stable, professional environment
- Competitive compensation — we pay market rates for the right experience
- No micromanagement — we trust you to deliver, and we evaluate you on output, not hours
- Direct reporting line — you will work directly with the Head of Operations, with full visibility into the business
How You'll Be Evaluated
We measure performance on three criteria:
- Accuracy — are your books clean? Are reconciliations complete? Are there errors or omissions?
- Timeliness — are payments processed on schedule? Are month-end closes completed on time? Do you meet reporting deadlines?
- Autonomy — do you manage your own workflow? Can you resolve issues without escalation? Do you proactively identify and address problems?
How to Apply
Please submit your CV. While not required, we welcome examples of past financial reporting or process improvement work if you have them. Relevant professional experience can also be discussed during the interview process.
We will only consider candidates who meet the core competency requirements. If you are unsure whether you qualify, please read the requirements carefully before applying.
Singapore-based candidates only. We are unable to sponsor employment passes for this role.
